The 4010 provides the best value per Epson projector dollar spent for today's cinematic and broadcast TV content, and has none of the optical issues to 'deal with' that the 3800 has.

Yep, I have a soft focus spot in the lower right hand corner. While I didn't have this issue with my HC3700, I'm still not completely ready to blame the projector for a few reasons.

I run 4k uhd 60 all day and it looks great and everyone I read or watched who compared it side by side with true 4k couldn't tell the difference. The algorithm on the 3800 is fantastic.

I had multiple 3800's and they suffered from uneven focus if lens shift was in use (shifting the image more than about 6" would decrease focal uniformity with my set-up).

I did and I'm happy with it but honestly haven't been using it all that much. As I moved away from physical media to streaming, I find myself using the Sony X950G that the projector screen lowers down in front of.

I think the 3800 is the sweet spot for NON light controlled rooms. You just have to have that brightness which in turn cuts the contrast and blacks.

I just upgraded from a 3700 to a 3800 projector and am having a problem with uneven focus. Parts of the screen are blurry while other parts are crisp.

The 3800 is still a great projector - it does >a lot of things< very well. 4K60 sports or events in a bright room - set it up anywhere! - wireless input! - even OK without a sound system! Your peeps will love it.

I noticed on the one I had that it was perfectly sharp in the center and the whole perimeter was a tad off. I was just using the lines on the built in test pattern. That being said, I never noticed it with any real world content.

My second was a bit better but there's a dead pixel right in the center. Sending that one back and keeping the first with the out of focus 2 corners.

About a week later, it turned off in the middle of a movie. It did this about a week later. It did it about 6-8 times over the next month.

I've had mine for about 2 years now and have never had a problem with it. Bought it from Amazon , new, factory sealed.

i had a list of shows up today and noticed the bottom of the list is in focus and nice and crisp... top half is super blurry.. so uneven focus..

It's much brighter, the colors are amazing, the 1080 "4k enhancement" is impressive, but this project suffers from focus uniformity.

Really happy with the projector now, the image quality/colours and brightness, considering the price point of course.

with real world content it is only noticeable with subtitles or so but with a pc connected it looks quite ugly in the bottom left corner...

I still lose some focus and detail at the very edges of the screen That's one of the compromises that you make with the 3200/3800 series Well tuned they are excellent but you have to really put the work into these to get them to this point.

Received my replacement unit today and it’s perfect. Definitely got a dud on the first one. Very happy now.

just picked up an Epson 3800 and the left lower side is slighlty out of focus when the rest is in focus, cannot get all even.

I got the Epson 3800 over the Benq HT3550 1.5 years ago due to the brightness performance in not-so dark conditions.

My 3800 has been running all day everyday for about 13,000 hours now without any issues. Just replaced the bulb again last month(99 bucks) and it looks good as new! It's going to take a whole lot of better tech to convince me to replace it with something else.

Very vibrant colors, bright image and excellent contrast of new projector vs old. The critical flaw? Focal uniformity.

The 3800 has a bad lens for some, but these interoperability problems will always be there with the 4010.

I just installed my 3800... and really like it in my non-light controlled room. I could have spent more, but didn't want to at this point... colors and HDR look pretty darn good and the 3000 lumens makes a huge difference over the 2000 lumens of my older projector.

Just got mine a few days ago.. so far i kind hate it. did a full convergence but it always just seems blurry...

I went from a 3800 to a 4010 to a 5050. The 4010 was a huge step up from the 3800.

In my uncontrolled light room the 3800 is a much better option and it's not even close really

Just setup my projector today and the lower right is noticeably out of focus, upper left and right are slightly out of focus as well. Everything else is crisp. I tested on 3 walls and see the same behavior. It’s on a shelf and everything was lined up perfectly.

my replacement unit is fine. Not 100% but much better so I will keep it

I don't have this issue on the 3800 that I bought earlier this year.

AVS Forum▼ don’t recommend

I got a 3rd replacement but still the same issue. It's a focus compromise between center top, bottom left and top right. Sharp in top left bottom right. It's aggravating as the inconsistencies are viewable from seating distance when reading text on web pages.

Got my Epson 3800 up and running today and absolutely love it.

I owned multiple 3800's, a 4010 and a 5050ub, the 4010 and 5050ub do not suffer from this issue.

I picked up a 3800 12 days ago, noticed the uneven focus, while trying to research, few days later got a red stuck pixel ! watched bunch of YouTube videos attempting to fix it, no luck, since it was less than 2 weeks, I just returned it and waiting for another one to come !!!

I have also had an issue with the image drifting and have had to redo the alignment.

After lots of position tweaking still parts of the screen are a tad oof.

I totally agree, but I think my pic with win explorer is very ugly.

there was another issue with the 3800 in addition to the focal non-uniformity issues: chromatic aberration. When displaying a monochrome/grayscale white field, the displayed image was slightly red -tinted on one side (horizontally), modulated to pure white in the center, and then gradually-more blue-tinted.
