Boss Katana 50 Gen 3

Based on 625 comments across 5 communities
TL;DR
Owners overwhelmingly praise the Katana 50 Gen 3 as a remarkable value, delivering great clean and modeled tones plus a deep stack of built-in effects that replace a pile of pedals. Many find it feels tube-like and dial in sounds they love, though several note the stock tones underwhelm until you tweak them and the editing interface can be fiddly. A few players also feel it leans processed next to a real tube amp and wish the 50-watt had an effects loop.

65% of 625 verified owners recommend the Boss Katana 50 Gen 3.

I was so convinced by their practicality that I bought one a couple of years back. However, I ended up selling it, because I only used it a couple of times.

This amp is a no brainer. Cheap and delivering a great sound and loaded with features.

now it has a wool blanket thrown over it

The only thing I think is BS with the Katana's is the 100w you get eight preset channels and the 50w you get four preset channels.

Reddit▼ don’t recommend

I have the katana50, but don't really like it... The idea of having over 50 built in pedals sounds great, but the interfaces are unintuïtive...

Told my parents i wanted world peace for christams, but if i couldn't get that, Id want the amp instead lol

YouTube▼ don’t recommend

I was like "I don't get it, I just don't get it"

I bought gen 3. I owned a mk1 katana and never upgraded to mk2 so gen 3 felt like a great place to land.

If you own the previous version, you don't need it. If you don't and get it, you'll enjoy it as it sounds solid.

What an incredible difference!

YouTube▼ don’t recommend

Because of that I have never been tempted by the hype surrounding the Katana.

it didn't sound so bad at all

For the price it's amazing.

whilst the Katana isn't bad, I agree the hype is overdone

YouTube▲ recommend

been playing it live for 5 years now love it and have never had an issue

YouTube▼ don’t recommend

Ordered the 50 Gen 3 and was underwhelmed.

YouTube— neutral

it sounds good enough for me

YouTube▼ don’t recommend

the Katana feels completely antiseptic. I also found the plethora of settings distracting.

YouTube▲ recommend

it's the best solid state amp I've ever heard! As an added plus, it's light as a feather

So for me, I like that I'm not paying for a feature I would never use. Agree about the Push channel- that's the type of tone I usually dial in

YouTube▼ don’t recommend

It never struck me as a sound I needed to have.

Good to know

Practical notes owners raise — setup, wiring, and quirks. They don't say whether the person likes the product, so they're not counted in the score, but they inform the pros, cons, and who it's for.
